Specificity | This antibody is specific for Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA). |
Application | Western Blotting. ELISA. Immunohistochemistry on Paraffin Sections (1/200). This product requires protein digestion pre-treatment of paraffin sections e.g. trypsin or pronase. Or antigen retrieval using heat treatment prior to staining of paraffin sections. Sodium citrate buffer pH 6.0 is recommended for this purpose. Positive Control: Human Prostate. |
Background | Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is a 34 kD glycoprotein manufactured almost exclusively by the prostate gland. This a protein produced by normal prostate cells. This enzyme participates in the dissolution of the seminal fluid coagulum and plays an important role in fertility. The highest amounts of PSA are found in the seminal fluid; some PSA escapes the prostate and can be found in the serum. This serum component has been used to track the response to therapy in men with prostate cancer. |
