| Background | Beta actin is one of six different actin isoforms which have been identified. Actins are highly conserved proteins that are involved in cell motility, structure and integrity. The two major cytoskeletal proteins implicated in cell motility are actin and myosin. There are three a-actin (skeletal, cardiac, and smooth muscle), one b-actin (bg-actins (g-smooth nuscle and g-nonmuscle). Antibody to b-actin provides a specific and useful tool in studying the intracellular distribution of b-actin and the static and dynamic aspects of the cytoskeleton. |
