Specificity | This antibody recognises rat amyloid precursor protein (APP). | Application | Western Blot: 1:1000; detects a band of approximately 115kDa in rat hippocampal lysate. | Background | APP is a type I integral membrane protein with a relatively large extracellular domain and a short intracellular domain. In mammals, APP is expressed ubiquitously. Its function is poorly understood, but the overall structure suggests a function as a receptor or growth factor, even though it has also been implicated in proand antiapoptotic functions. Its most substantiated function is in synaptic formation and repair.
