The Activity-Dependent Neuroprotective Protein (ADNP) is a member of the protein family with a nine-zinc finger motif followed by a homeobox domain. The human ADNP (hADNP) mRNA is expressed in distinct normal tissues, while high expression levels are encountered in malignant cells. The hADNP gene is mapped to chromosome 20q12-13.2, a region amplified in neoplasias, including breast, bladder, ovarian, pancreatic, and colon cancers. Inhibition of ADNP protein expression by antisense oligodeoxynucleotides results in reduction of cellular metabolic activity and increase in the tumor suppressor p53. Such results may suggest development of antisense ADNP oligodeoxynucleotides in antitumor therapeutics. |
